Sonatas and Partitas For Solo Violin

A few years after Johann Sebastian Bach´s death, his second-eldest son, Carl Philipp Emmanuel, trustee and executor of the paternal estate, wrote of the Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin: "He understood completely the possibilities of all the stringed instruments. One of the greatest violinists once told me that he had never seen anything more ideally suited to help one become a good violinist, and could recommend to somebody wishing to learn nothing better than the afo rementioned violin solos without bass."
