In contrast to their "sacred" counterparts, Bach's "secular" cantatas were not written for worship, but for the homage of members of the reigning houses or for private occasions. The musical quality however does not suffer from that. Often, Bach reused his "secular" cantatas as models for his "sacred" works. May they be "sacred" or secular, Helmuth Rilling plays Bach's cantatas with vigour and joy of playing.
