This is the first CD of a series that will feature the complete oeuvre for solo piano by Robert Schumann. So far there is no TRULY complete recording of the Schumann's complete piano, although a few presume to bear this title. Florian Uhlig's interpretations are based on the new critical edition of Schumann's piano works, and will result in recordings of many pieces that have never-before-been-available on LP or CD.
Volume 1 includes the Sonata in F minor, Opus 14 as first conceived by the composer. Originally cast in five movements, two of which were later removed by Schumann before publication under the name "Concert sans orchestra." Schumann, however, salvaged several movements from the Sonata in f minor, including the "Prestissimo possibile" as the first version of the finale of the original version and the Romance in F minor, which were only discovered in 2009. Uhlig's performance is the first time these works have ever appeared on CD. The Fantasie op.17 by Schumann was initially conceived as a "Grand Sonata for Beethoven" to commemorate the new statue of the composer in Bonn in 1835, but Schumann's was later to judge his original concept as excessive. The final version that Schumann settled on is a very haunting piece of music that was - although inspired by Clara - bore a dedication to Franz Liszt.

Florian Uhlig is one of the most distinguished young pianists. German Music Joachim Kaiser critic wrote of Uhligh's recent Beethoven "Variations" CD: "Florian Uhlig plays masterfully. He has a charming non-legato, which he usues with restraint... His chords, especially in the lower registers, are sonorous… His playing is characterized by wit and spirituality and deep involvement with each piece's structure. His interpretations can compete with the best available."
