Not since Alfred Brendel's acclaimed recordings from decades ago, has a pianist undertaken the project to record all of Beethoven's lesser-known variation cycles. Yes, the "Diabelli" variations have been programmed hundreds of times, but the current program instead focuses on what are primarily youthful works, composed by Beethoven for his own use as occasional pieces or encores. The young German pianist Florian Uhlig has decided to tackle this unusual and demanding repertoire with brio, and the listeners will not be disappointed with the results.
Florian Uhlig has earned critical acclaim for his extensive repertoire, lively and creative programming and distinctive voice as an interpreter - intelligent but not academic, passionate but not careless. This is Florian Uhlig's second recording with hänssler CLASSIC, with further discs to follow from this promising, young pianist.
Because of these qualities this CD won the award named "CD des Doppelmonats" from the journal PIANONews in the July-August issue.

"I was amazed when I listend to the CD with Beethoven variations recorded by 35-year-old pianist Florian Uhlig. ... The interpretations rank among the very finest examples. ... This staggeringly original CD is an event." Joachim Kaiser - Süddeutsche Zeitung
