The SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart is considered one of the finest choirs in the world. Founded in 1946, the ensemble has dedicated itself to the promotion and
performance of new and little-known choral music. This year's award marks the fifth time the ensemble, under the leadership of Marcus Creed, has been honored with
the Ensemble of the Year award from ECHO Klassik. Earlier this year the SWR Vokalensemble received the distinguished Europäischen Chorpreis 2011 from the
European Foundation for Culture, "Pro Europa."

The "ECHO Classic" Awards takes its place among the most coveted international honors of the music industry. Established in 1994 by the Deutschen Phono-Akademie, and the Kulturinstitut des Bundesverbandes
Musikindustrie, the ECHO Awards represent many of the most world's prestigious recording labels.

This year's 58 ECHO Award winners were chosen from nominations in 21 different categories. Each ECHO Klassik Award winner was selected by an eleven-member jury, consisting of celebrities from politics, culture
and media, the ZDF music department and the Working Group of the Association of Classical Music Industry Association. This year marks the 18th anniversary of the ECHO Klassik Awards, which will take place
October 2nd at the Konzerthaus Berlin. The televised portion of the ceremonies, "ECHO der Stars", will be broadcast later that evening on the German ZDF network.
